Beyoncé and Jay-Z have broken the previous record for real estate prices in California by purchasing an extensive 40,000-square-foot mansion with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The power couple reportedly spent $200 million on the property in Malibu, surpassing the $177 million spent by billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen on a neighboring residence in 2021.
Sources cited by TMZ reveal that the minimalist concrete and glass structure was originally bought in 2003 by art collector William Bell for $14.5 million. Over the course of 15 years, the former owner engaged the renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who received the prestigious Pritzker Prize, to renovate the L-shaped mansion with spacious hallways and an open floor plan.
The property, which is rarely captured in photographs, includes six distinct structures and features patios that lead to a swimming pool, a cabana, and a sprawling, lush lawn perched on a cliff overlooking the beach. It is situated in the affluent Paradise Cove enclave, famously known as Billionaires’ Row.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z managed to acquire the property at a significant discount. Initially, it was listed privately for $295 million and shared exclusively with a select group of qualified buyers.
In 2017, the couple purchased a similar mansion in Bel-Air for $88 million.
TMZ reported that Kurt Rappaport from Westside Estate Agency represented both the seller and the buyers in this recent transaction.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Tadao Ando is also involved in designing a home for Kanye West in Malibu.
